Creating Contact Groups
Google users can create customized distribution lists to send to multiple recipients in a snap. Grouping contacts under the same “Label” allows you to paste a distribution list into Gmail and other Google Apps with just one address. The following post provides instructions and a tutorial video to guide you through this process. To create a Contact Group:
- Navigate to contacts.google.com. Click “Create Label” from the left sidebar menu & name your group.
- Select the people you want to group together by putting a checkbox next to their names.
- Click the “Labels” icon from the top menu & choose the Label you want to assign to these contacts.
Over time you may need to add or remove people in your distribution lists. Be certain you are doing this by adding or removing the LABEL. If you choose “Delete” for a contact this action would remove them from your address book altogether.
Not Just for Email
Once you have grouped contacts under Labels, you can use these Labels to send email, share files or invite attendees to calendar events. Simply begin typing the Label name and you will see the option for the contact group appear. You can also easily remove individuals you don’t want to include for a particular use.
This customized distribution list is only available to you, unlike Google Groups, which are created and managed by your school district and available to others. Following a few steps with importing and exporting, you can share with others who may want to use the same lists you’ve created. Click HERE for instructions on that process.
